Welcome to the module “The theory of change”!

In this module, we will look at what the Theory of Change is, how to construct it by targeting the changes that the organisation wants to bring about, how to ensure that it is consistent and how to use it operationally.

Teaching objectives :

  • Understand the fundamental principles of change theory
  • Target the change you want to bring about: define your organization’s vision, needs and objectives
  • Understand how to establish a logical and coherent relationship between project activities, intermediate results and long-term objectives.
  • Use the theory of change as a project management tool, integrating it into monitoring, evaluation and continuous improvement of activities.

About Isabelle Hoyaux, trainer

Isabelle Hoyaux has a dual background in science and economics (Imperial College (UK) and ESSEC Chaire Entrepreneuriat Social (France)), and is an expert in the replication and scaling-up of social innovations. 

She began her professional career as a strategy consultant at L.E.K.; she then moved to the SSE sector at Unis-CitĂ©, where she was first responsible for private partnerships and then administrative and financial director. At Unis-CitĂ©, which grew by a factor of 10 during this period, she was involved in developing the structure’s development strategy and organisational structure. 

She then took an innovative healthcare access solution from India to Africa, with the NGO Right To Sight. Isabelle helped organisations in Africa to adapt and implement this approach. She then went on to manage CIDR, the International Centre for Development and Research, which implements innovative initiatives in Africa. 

Today, she is the founder of ScaleChanger, which supports the replication and scaling-up of innovations and social enterprises. She helps organisations and project leaders to think strategically about their development: identifying the key success factors for projects, thinking about the strategy to adopt, defining governance between the founding project and local projects, and defining and/or developing the business model and financial strategies.
